Chief Executive Officer

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for the day to day management of the organisation. The CEO manages human resources, finance and policy and program development. The CEO undertakes high level negotiations on behalf of Winnunga Nimmityjah and undertakes public relations, media and community development activities.

Medical Clinical Services

Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health and Community Services (WNAHCS) employs general practitioners, practice nurses, an alcohol and other drugs nurse, a mental health nurse, a paediatric nurse, a pharmacist, Aboriginal Health Workers, a psychiatrist, psychologists, midwives, a dentist and dental assistants, a physiotherapist, podiatrist, dietician, and audiologist.

WNAHCS is accredited by AGPAL against the RACGP standards and we also have Quality Improvement Council accreditation. In addition we are an accredited training facility and train medical students from the Australian National University, Resident Medical Officers from The Canberra Hospital and General Practice Registrars.

Winnunga also has a transport service to help people attend medical services at Winnunga.

Midwifery Services

WNAHCS has a community midwifery team of 2 midwives and one Aboriginal Access Worker. They offer a range of services for expectant mothers and their families both during the pregnancy and after the delivery.

Social Health Team

The Social Health Team offers a range of services and programs, employing both female and male counselling and support staff.

The Social Health Team offers counselling, advocacy and referral to other agencies, and employs substance misuse counsellors, a Bringing Them Home counsellor, child and adolescent mental health workers, tobacco cessation workers, healthy lifestyle workers, and youth detox workers. They offer social and emotional wellbeing programs, outreach services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in custody at Bimberi Youth Justice Centre and the Alexander Maconochie Centre, and a home maintenance program.

The Social Health Team undertake community development activities and one of their major aims is to promote pride in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture

Chronic Disease Coordinator

The Chronic Disease Coordinator has responsibility for developing services and programs to address chronic desease issues in the community.

Dental Services

The dental services employs two dentists and two dental assistants. The program provides treatment and preventative dental and oral hygiene care. Treatments include fillings, dentures and extractions.

Hearing Health

The Hearing Health Program provides hearing tests both at Winnunga, and at public primary schools across the ACT.

Australian Nurse-Family Partnership Program (ANFPP)

The ANFPP is a nurse-led home visiting program which provides education and information to mothers during pregnancy, infancy and toddlerhood. The underlying principles of the ANFPP are to improve the health, well-being and self-sufficiency of mothers and their children using a client-centered, strengths-based approach. The program maintains a focus on the cultural needs of the participating families.

The Opiate Program

Winnunga employs a full-time specialist drug and alcohol nurse to provide individualised clinical care to clients dependant on opioids, amphetamines, and benzodiazepines.

Health Promotion

The Health Promotion Officer is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion activities at Winnunga Nimmityjah.

Public Health

Winnunga AHCS employs a Public Health Medical Officer to provide advice and support on matters relating to population health, quality improvement, data analysis, evaluation, research and public health policy.

Corporate Services

Corporate Services includes the Deputy CEO, Senior Advisor to the CEO and Board, Accreditation Manager, Finance Team, Human Resource Manager, IT Support Officer, and Executive Support. In addition, Winnunga employs two Media and Communications Officers, and a Research Officer.

Clinic Administration Team

The Clinic Administration Team includes a Practice Manager, Medical Receptionists and Transport Officers. The Team provides a professional frontline service to all clients attending Winnunga. In addition, they register clients with the service, maintain client records, direct enquiries, organise client transport for the GP clinic, and ensure Medicare processing is completed accurately.
