Womens Group

The Women’s Group meets every Wednesday at Winnunga between 12pm and 3pm.

The group is open to women of all ages, and provides support, education, referral and advocacy.

Women attending the group have benefitted from a range of health and lifestyle education sessions, including:

  • Healthy eating
  • Children’s nutrition
  • Managing depression
  • Physical activity
  • Arts and crafts
  • Outings

Guest speakers also regularly attend the group to discuss topics such as:

  • Breast screening
  • Housing issues
  • Centrelink issues
  • Funeral planning

The group facilitators work closely with other services and programs at Winnunga, and regularly refer to GPs, nurses, the Winnunga dentist, No More Boondah tobacco cessation group, the midwifery team, and the Social Health Team.

Morning tea and lunch are provided.

The Social Health Team also runs health promotion campaigns and community activities. One of their main aims is to promote pride in Aboriginal culture.
